MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND FLUID DYNAMICS OF SUBSURFACE SEDIMENTS AS AN INDICATION OF THE OIL-GAS PERSPECTIVES OF MASAZIR FIELD, ABSHERON PENINSULA, AZERBAIJAN

The article summarizes results of the gas planning studies implemented on the Masazir oil-gas field, located on the territory of the same-named settlement in the Absheron Peninsula. Carried out gasplanning in near-surface mud dominated sediments at a depth of 1–1.2 m was done by hand drilling and application of a portable gas analyser “Metrex 3”. As a result of planning it was revealed that methane concentrations in the sediments exceed 80%, and that there are anomaly gaseous macro-manifestations. The high anomaly coefficient reaching 200 points to the gas accumulations in the field, especially in the lower beds of the Pliocene Productive Series. Several damaging natural gas explosions occurred in the field indicate the danger of this area for human habitation.

MORPHOSTRUCTURAL INDICATORS OF OIL-AND-GAS CONTENT OF MUD VOLCANIC EDIFICES FROM THE EXAMPLE OF GOBUSTAN AND THE ADJACENT TERRITORIES, SOUTH-CASPIAN BASIN

The present paper deals with correlation between the morphostructural factors (mudvolcanic edifice sizes, volumes of the erupted breccia, etc.) of some mud volcanoes in Gobustan and the adjacent territories and the oil-and-gas content of the host structures. Using the application of GIS technique it was possible to create the 3D models of the selected mud volcanoes and calculate the total volumes of the edificies. As a result, the studied mud volcanoes had been divided into two groups according to their dimensions – so-called “group of small mud volcanoes” and “group of large mud volcanoes”. The first group includes such mud volcanoes like Zenbil Island, Khare-Zire Island, Lokbatan, Dashgil. Here the hydrocarbon accumulations adjoin directly to the conduits or locate nearby. The second group consists of the structures that host the large mud volcanoes. The specific feature of such structures is their non-productivity near the mud volcanic conduits. Here the hydrocarbon accumulations are basically gas or rarely gas-condensate (Kanizadag, Garadag) and oil-gas outline can be far from the mud volcanic conduit.

LITHOFACIES AND RESERVOIR PROPERTIES OF THE MAYKOPIAN DEPOSITS OF GANJA OIL-GAS REGION

The Ganja oil-gas region (OGR) is characterized by the wide occurrence of the May-kopian succession. Outcrops of this suite are found in the different localities along the north-eastern foothills of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains. Within the region the Maykopian Suite is distinguished for largely variable lithofacies and thickness. The section is dominated by fine sediments. The highest proportion of coarse material is recorded in the central part of the Ganja OGR in the Gazanbulagh, Godakboz, Ajidere, Sariyaldagh, Naftalan and Tartar areas. The reservoir properties of the Maykopian deposits can be classified as moderate - good. The lithological variations and wedging out of the Maykopian sediments provide an opportunity for exploration of the non-structural traps.

ABUNDANCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE PROBLEMATIC MORPHOTYPES IN THE HYDROGEN SULFIDE BOTTOM SEDIMENTS OF THE NORTH-EASTERN BLACK SEA (CAUCASUS REGION, RUSSIA)

The paper presents the results of our studies of the diversity of some problematic morphotypes with unknown taxonomic affiliation as well as their abundance and areal - vertical distribution in the deep northeastern part of the Black Sea (Caucasian region, Russia). The data were collected from the bottom sediments of the 56 localities (water depth 375m- 2150m) during marine campaigns in 2002-2004. The bottom topography of the area is characterized by the occurrence of different relief elements, bathymetric and lithodynamic patterns. The main goal of this work is to obtain quantitative data for each morphotype, and to show link between their distribution and bionomic conditions such as sea depth and bottom topography. The data display that occurrence of some morphotypes in a toxic environment is not an exceptional case. The total amount of studied forms during reported period varied from 35 to 1965 specimens / 10 cm2. The origin of these specific organisms, pathways and timing of their introduction into the deep-water zone remain unclear. Our studies shed light on this problem as well as deal with the questions on the morphotypes’ systematic position. We assume that these morphotypes can be also considered as effective indicators of the depositional environment and paleoclimatic variations.

DIATOM ANALYSIS OF THE PLEISTOCENE-HOLOCENE SEDIMENTS OF THE KURA RIVER DELTA, SOUTH-CASPIAN SEA

As a result of the analysis of core material from two wells A and B, drilled in the Kura River delta in the South Caspian Sea, 104 species of diatoms from 34 genera were found. Radiocarbon dating indicates the Mid Pleistocene age of the oldest deposits - 47,07 Ka BP that testifies to the Khazar-Novo-Caspian age of the studied sediments (Middle Pleistocene - Holocene epochs). The change in the identified diatom assemblages along the section of wells dominated by species Actinocyclus ehrenbergii, Actinocyclus curvatulus, Cyclotella caspia, Cyclotella shambica, Cyclotella notata tells about depositional environment shifts from shoreface to deltaic settings in the studied area, accompanied by variations in the salinity from brakish-water to fresh-water conditions.
